In 1901, it had a population of 25,597 and was a part of the, in district of the, and remained so till the creation of in 1947. Haridwar was first connected with railways, via, through branch line in 1886, when the and Railway line was extended through to, this was later extended to in 1900.
Haridwar as a part of the, 1903 'Haridwar Union Municipality' was constituted in 1868, which included the then villages of Mayapur.
